If given 48 hours, an isolated room, and loads of caffeine could you and your friends build the next best video game? These marathon sessions, commonly known as game jams, are growing in popularity as a way to rapidly create, test, and share new game ideas with the world. Albuquerque had the privledge of participating among 53 other cities worldwide in the Global Game Jam earlier this year, and the Rio Grande IGDA hosted the first ever NM Game Jam in July. This presentation will provide a firsthand account of lessons learned from these events and future plans for game jams throughout the state.
